Here and There in Cardigans

This week has been flying by and I have been wearing my trusty cardigans through and through.  Both of these cardigans are from The Gap and are two of my absolute favorites.  The blue one is a lightweight wool and the oatmeal one is cashmere.  They keep me warm during the long hours I spend sitting at my desk at work in front of my computer.  Naturally they also allow me to show off the shape and pattern of whatever I choose to put under them - a big bonus for me!

Office Patterns

More work days and more patterns for me.  On Tuesday I paired a flirty top with some of my more conservative work trousers to balance out my look for the office.  I love this top not only for its pattern but also fantastic shape.  Peplums are  super popular this season and I can see why.  They give you a great waist and hide any potential muffin tops.

 Today I forgot to take my blog pictures so I raced to the ladies room at work with my faithful blackberry. I love this wrap dress for its shape and pattern.  To give it a kick of color instead of a bright cardigan, I paired it with my bright red flats.

New Year's Eve!

 Happy New Year All!  I hope you had a fantastic night and are off to a good new year!  I rang in the new year with old and new friends at a cocktail party.  From getting ready with some of my very besties to crawling into bed at 4am it was tons of fun!  For NYE I broke out a dress that I have had for almost two years and never wore.  I bought it because it was $20 at BR and I had an upcoming occasion for it.  But then I didn't end up wearing it because I found an even better dress for said event.  I was so excited to finally get to break it out! 

I love this ruffled one shouldered neckline and silver color of this dress.  Because the dress has a lot going on I really thought about my accessories.  I went for lots of bracelets and relatively toned down shoes.  The bracelets on my right hand are all borrowed from my marm while the ones on my left are the gifted bracelets I received from my Coolest A!

I paired the outfit with more subdued shoes because I had so much already going on.  The low heel, awesome color and pattern worked perfectly with this outfit.  But I still ended up coming out of them during the night.

My Second Attempt!

The title of my post is a reference to the dress I wore today. I wore it once before, but I did not have time to properly plan my outfit, so the dress ended up looking just okay. This time I had more time to think about how to play with this basic dress. How to use its simplicity to my advantage and accent its cute shape and cut.


I started planning this outfit around the shoes. Because the dress is pretty short, if its worn with heels at all they have to be low heels. I really like these Sam Edelman's because they are a great color, with nice silver detailing and a low heel. Even though they are red, they are still pretty neutral and can be worn with many things.








I also paired my outfit with my blue ruffle sweater. I like how the lighter blue and ruffles goes with the dark blue and gray of the dress. Plus it added another level of color and texture to my outfit.







To finish off the outfit, I cinched in the dress with a metal belt that I borrowed from my mother's closet. I actually wore the belt backwards today. It has a normal leather front with the great metal detailing on the back, but I wanted to show off the metal pieces so I turned it around.
