Starting Point

Today I broke out a new bright and colorful top to combat the cold and rain that blew into town!  This is a new top that my marm bought for me at Maribel.  Its a Marc Jacobs and I love the play between the colors, patterns and shapes!  Because I wore it to work, I tried to tone it down a bit by wearing a cardigan over it and pairing it with dark jeans and basic flats.  I look forward to doing more with this top in the future, but today I think it made a nice debut!

I actually wore the cardigan to cover up the sleeves of this top!  I really like them, but it was all part of toning down the top for work.

Busy

Today was my last day at work before I head out for a two week vacation as well as the start of Yom Kippur, the holiest of Jewish holidays.  This meant that work was a little nuts trying to get everything done and I had to race home to get dressed and eat before temple.  The name of the game today was function.  But I like to think I put the fun in function today!  I wore my bow cardigan from my most recent Maribel score with some old Seven for All Mankind jeans that I scored at Maribel several years ago.  Under the cardigan I wore a long sleeved J. Crew shirt that I have had for AGES!  To finish of the outfit I went with my floral flats.  They make most outfits better.  Overall I really liked the mix of colors and textures today.

Tom Ford was right Friday!

In the commentary for his movie "A Single Man," Tom Ford talks about how on his worst days he puts on his best clothes. Today was one of those crazy days where work was awful yesterday and I had a crazy amount of things to do today. And of course I did not even want to get out of bed today. So when I did get out of bed I broke out a jacket that I had recently bought, but not yet worn. I splurged on this jacket at the Eileen Fisher outlet because her materials and construction are so great, and this one fit perfectly. I really loved the shape and the color of this jacket and I felt great in it all day today. To show it off I paired it with my go to Gap jeans, and a basic gray gap t-shirt. I also rocked a scarf that was a gift from friends who were visiting Vietnam. I finished off my outfit with my floral flats. All of these things are some of my favorites and they did make me feel like I looked good throughout my crazy day.

Mark Twain was Right!

Mark Twain knew what he was talking about when he said "the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco" After a crazy week at work, I went for a low key and warm look for my casual Friday ensemble. Its been cold and overcast this week, so by time Friday rolled around I wanted comfort and warmth. Of course I also wanted to still look good an office appropriate. I based today's outfit around the combination of my green sweater and my plaid scarf. To balance out the more voluminous top, I went for my skinny cords. I was actually planning on wearing heels today, but my legs were sore from yoga so I went for my metallic Jeffrey Campbell flats.

Split Opinion Thursday!

Today to spruce up my brown and black wrap dress I threw on my trusty purple cardigan. The interesting thing is it got a variety of responses from people on my floor at work. One person said that she wasn't feeling the bright cardigan with the dress, and I should have paired it with a black cardigan. Two other people said they really liked the contrast of the muted colors of the dress and brightness of the cardigan. I chose the cardigan because I wanted to add a splash of color to my outfit, but I had worn my red Marc flats yesterday and my orange cardigan the day before that. I did like how the purple and brown played off each other. I kept the shoes basic since I had pattern and color going on up top.

Happy almost the weekend all!

Today my outfit was total fluke. The lovely Miss Fiona woke me up early this morning so by the time it was time to get dressed I was already out of it. I threw on this sweater skirt combo after I had already cast about 50% of my work clothes onto the floor.









Despite its dubious beginnings, I really liked this outfit and got many compliments on it. This was the first time I felt like I found a top that fit with the skirt. Because this skirt sits right at my waist (not my hips or high waisted) its hard to find a shirt that fits with it. This sweater hit the skirt at just the right place.

















To spice up my outfit I borrowed a long necklace from my marm and wore my metallic Jeffrey Campbell flats.

More Weekend Work Wear

Today is hopefully the beginning of summer in the Bay Area. Sadly, I did not get to enjoy the sunny day reading in the back yard like I would have liked to as I had some work to do. Some weekends it is easier to go into the office and do a couple of hours of work rather then have a hectic week. That was the case today. I went to work and for a long swim. But luckily the days are long and the weather is still nice, so I might end up in the back yard (perhaps with Princess Fiona) after all.




Although the weather was beautiful this afternoon, this morning it was chilly, so I threw on a royal blue scarf over my go to green sweater and my cropped skinny jeans.

Princess Fiona decided to partake of my photo shoot today. She is one lucky cat, although she only has one outfit, its a cute one!

I have had these jeans for a while, but the leg length was not quite right on them. They were meant to be cropped jeans, but I have really short legs, so they were in fact just an odd length on me. Once my marm shortened them, I started wearing them a lot more.



To finish off my casual weekend outfit, I wore my floral flats. Because my outfit was devoid of pattern, I thought the flowered flats were a nice accent. Sadly I didn't get a good picture of them. I have loved these flats to death and each time I wear them think it might be the day that they fall apart completely.

These are a few of my favorite things!

Today I based my outfit around two of my favorite things: bows and floral prints. Luckily for me, my bow top and my floral flats have the same color pink in them. My floral flats are some of my favorite flats because they combine my love of bright colors and floral prints.















When I bought this top at Anthropologie, I wasn't sure if it was fabulous or awful. But it was really cheap - by Anthro standards - and I liked the color. I now really like this top for the awesome detailing and movement of the bow when I wear it. I didn't realize at the time that I bought this shirt that I would have to wear a tank under it to keep it from being x-rated.







I love these flats! When I saw them at Ambience, I questioned whether plastic floral flats were worth $40. But they looked great with the jeans I was wearing, so I bought them. Over a year later, I know that $40 was nothing for such great flats. They colors in the shoe make them work with everything, and they are always a cheerful accent to any outfit!




To balance out the colors and details of my top and shoes, I wore a black skirt and sweater today. I tried to wear a gray skirt, but it just didn't look right, so I switched to my black. I actually really like how the black sweater and skirt make the color and detailing on the shirt more vibrant.
