Getting Vintage with my Blackberry

 Yesterday I had a long day at work followed by a fun night out with my bestie Stormy Normy.  So it was a trip to the bathroom at work with my blackberry in order to take pictures of my outfit.  I played with the vintage feel of these pants by tucking in a basic t-shirt to show off the high waist nature of these pants and a funky beaded belt.  I also added on a green cardigan and a long necklace to give this outfit a more interesting look.

These are the details of my outfit!  The funny thing about his necklace is it jingles when you walk.  No sneaking up on anybody for me!

Tights!

 Fall has full on arrived and so has the time to embrace my tights!  And to a large extent my t-straps.  Today's outfit was made out of several of my favorite things: My Boden t-straps, my purple tights, and my black and white shift.  Because there was so much going on in the outfit I chose a black cardigan to keep me warm at the office.  I really liked how all the pieces today came together.  The dress and cardigan were toned down and the shoes and tights were funky and bright.  It was a successful mix and match - so says me!

Balance

It has been a warm couple of days in the Bay Area (Hello Indian summer and WELCOME) so I decided to break out a new skirt that I have had for a few weeks but I have yet to wear.  I got this skit on sale at Boden and while I really like the shape and color, its only borderline work appropriate.  I actually often feel this way about things I wear to work, so I am constantly trying to balance my colorful, playful, and whimsical pieces with more traditional pieces to hit the right tone.  Today to balance out the skirts vibrant color and patter I paired it with a simple black bow tee (sadly you can't see the bow) and nude flats.  The skirt is on the shorter side, so the flats were a must.  Also I like how then I didn't have to try to match or coordinate with the skirt.  Overall I liked my outfit today and look forward to playing around with this skirt more in the future!

My Week Sans Color: Monday

I was talking to my cousin last week about how I thought an interesting challenge for me would be to not wear color to work. To stick to black, white, gray and brown. My cousin very promptly pointed out that for most other people the push is always to add color into their wardrobe, not take it out. So I decided to take on the challenge and attempt to go a week at work without color.

I started my work week without color with my black and white printed Boden dress with my mother's gray short sleeved sweater over it. I actually wore this sweater over my purple version of this dress a few weeks ago, so I knew the shape of the sweater and dress went well together.



I think this outfit was saved from being boring by the large pattern on the dress. Even though the colors are muted, the pattern most definitely is not! To finish off my outfit I wore my black bow peep toes. They are super comfy, but also not boring. And certainly work appropriate. In keeping with my them of no color I even wore my black earrings. I didn't go so far as to replace my red gingham sunglasses though. I have to have some boundaries!

Back to Work Wednesday!

Its hard to tell from these pictures, but when I took them this morning I felt far from pulled together and ready to go back to work. After such a nice weekend spent relaxing, coming back to my real life was hard. So I fell back on my basic work look: pencil skirt and heels, printed top and cardigan.












This morning I paired my ikat print cowl neck top with my black BR pencil skirt and dark gray cardigan. To add a little more color to my outfit I wore a red cloth headband.

















I finished off my outfit with my mid-height bow peep toes from BR. These shoes are the best for an anything goes day. They are dressier then flats, but their mid-height heel means you can spend all day in them. Plus I love bow detailing!

Happy Mid-week/beginning of the week all! I hope its treating you well!

Today my outfit was total fluke. The lovely Miss Fiona woke me up early this morning so by the time it was time to get dressed I was already out of it. I threw on this sweater skirt combo after I had already cast about 50% of my work clothes onto the floor.









Despite its dubious beginnings, I really liked this outfit and got many compliments on it. This was the first time I felt like I found a top that fit with the skirt. Because this skirt sits right at my waist (not my hips or high waisted) its hard to find a shirt that fits with it. This sweater hit the skirt at just the right place.

















To spice up my outfit I borrowed a long necklace from my marm and wore my metallic Jeffrey Campbell flats.

Playing with Polka Dots

Today was supposed to be another cold and stormy day in SF, so I broke back out the tights and my long sleeved polka dot dress.











Although I really think this is a dress that speaks for itself with its pattern, neckline and general shape, today I decided to try to accessorize it while still keeping it work appropriate.



Because of the shape of the dress, I didn't want to put a sweater on over it. I also didn't want a necklace that would obscure the neckline. I went for my marm's long charm necklace as a good accent to this already complicated dress. I really liked the length and complexity of the necklace over the patterned dress.

I Jingled all Monday!

On the bus home from work tonight, I thought about the fact that I have been toning down my clothes in order to present myself as more professional over the past few days. I keep on saying that I am being more conservative, and although I do think conservative is the right word, this is not a bad thing. Conservative can still look great. My blogging bestie Miss P and I do tend to have really far out natural fashion sense, but even under our most outrageous looks is the idea that you should look and feel good in your clothes.


This outfit was in many ways a toned down HB, but it still has a lot going on. I paired my go-to black work dress with my black and white striped cardigan. These are both staples of my work wear recently.

To accent my black and white basics I channeled Miss P and focused on my accessories. I wore a red headband and my gold bow flats that were a gift from Miss CT.

I also borrowed a long charm necklace from my marm. I really liked how this long necklace looked on my black dress. It has really fun charms, but unfortunately I jingled the whole day




I felt like a cat with a bell on my collar. But I still really liked the look.
