Opaque

 Another day, and some more thoughts about tights.  I think I say this every time I post about this dress, but I love this dress.  It's simple, it's easy, it has polka dots!  But it is also incredibly short.  To be anywhere near office appropriate, it has to be worn with opaque tights.  If I did not wear dark colored or opaque tights with this dress it would be way to much thigh for the office.  Yes, even paired with flats. This is one of the things I begrudgingly like about tights - they can make skirts and dresses that would otherwise be too short to wear to the office suddenly office appropriate. So today I went for my wine colored tights.  I also added one of my mother's vintage necklaces (that my father made way back in the 70s) to have fun with the neckline and play around with my different accessory options with this dress.

Chaos and Complimentary Coats

These past few days have been pure chaos!  Work has actually be surprisingly calm, but to make up for that I have had so much going on personally I hardly know what's going on anymore.  Even though I have really liked my work outfits this week I haven't had time to take pictures of them.  So this morning, knowing I was going to yoga tonight, I raced to the bathroom at work with my blackberry and snapped away.  Sadly, the quality of the blackberry doesn't let you see how cute this outfit was.  The toned down sweater and shoes played off of the printed dress and green tights beautifully!  On a random note, I love how you can see my jacket hanging in the back of this picture.  Not planned at all.

Several people today commented on how my green tights matched my jacket.  This was not my plan when I threw on the coat over the outfit today.  Again, the picture quality makes it hard to see, but they do indeed match.  I love it when things work out like this.

Feeling sick in Brooks Brothers, Stripes, and Green!

Hello lovely people!

I have decided to narrate this one a bit, partially because I feel less than above the moon but also because I have not spoken about fashion to those who read this in a while....

So stripes are in! Kate Spade says it but really stripes have been around from Audrey Hepburn to Freddie Kroger. Put on the stripes and wear them in immensity or if a bit stripe shy, wear them as accessories (like tights, shoes, a bag) or as one piece like a blazer or skirt. Or if a bold stripe is not your thing, try a subtle seer-sucker or pin stripe. Any stripes will do!

Also colored tights and funky socks are in! Apparently now that Silicon Valley is into it we should all jump on the wagon. Well people such as myself (and my lovely BF) have grown up with the stylishly patterned socks and I adore bright tights.

All in all this is a well-conceived outfit! I hope you agree!

Unprepared

This was not the outfit I had planned for today!  I still had polka dots on the mind, but I woke up this morning and realized the tights I wanted to wear were dirty and therefore had to come up with something else.  This dress is always a good back up!  It's a stand alone piece.  But today I wanted to see if I could wear it differently then I have previously during the life of this blog!  So I broke out a scarf that I received from my brother and future sister in law for Christmaskah!  This killed two birds with one stone.  I got to wear the awesome scarf and I covered up the neckline that makes this dress so distinctive and change the emphasis of the outfit.

 I love this dress but I don't think these pictures are great.  I took them while running out the door this morning!  Then during a crazy day at work I started to feel sick, by the time I made it home my temperature was over 101!  Sadly this means I crawled into bed rather then taking pictures of this scarf!  Its by a company called bev shots and this one is Tequila!  How awesome is that!  I'll definitely wear it again and get some better pictures so you can see how cool it is!

Back to the Grind: Monday

Hello everyone,

Again I apologize for my lack of posting last week. I hope to make up for it with some fabulous outfits this week!

I scored some major deals in Boston and I am very excited to show them off to you all.

Today is a pretty good day weather-wise but long in terms of me being out from 9am-9pm! I also decided that as Fall approached it is time to bust out some layering but with light fabrics because despite the September arrival there can be warm afternoons and no one is liking an outfit doused in sweat! I am wearing three different items with a striped pattern on them. The skirt underneath is a Jersey skirt from Express and I love the way it twirls and makes a dramatic effect. For the top I chose a basic blue and back striped tank-top and for the dress I chose a gauzy summer throw-over dress belted to show off the waist and bring structure to all the flowy items.

For accessories I went basic with a found beaded necklace, a gifted star necklace, a blue sash for my belt, my ever-important Sprout watch, and my Payless wedges.

Tip of the Day: Stripes can work for an outfit depending on the strength (boldness) of the stripe and how they are used together. Try verticals with horizontals, small stripes with bold and wide ones!

Burnt to a Crisp Outfit

I am very uncomfortable!!!

Okay, so after that mini exclamation of discomfort I will continue my post. After a relaxing day yesterday beaching it on a birthday extravaganza I learned the hard way that the sun is both your best and worst accessory, and that tan lines are serious business.

In order to avoid almost any skin contact I decided to wear light and relaxed clothes. I am wearing a blue top tucked into a black and white striped skirt from Express. I like to cinch the skirt and make it high-waisted so I can show off my legs, which are the only place on my body that resembles normal skin.

For accessories I chose my gifted clip-on shell earrings from my amazing friend Kristine and my Sprout watch. For shoes I am wearing my super colorful, and very comfortable wedges.

Tip of the Day: You can put flowy top with flowy skirt, but make sure you cinch or gather the fabric so you have a shape underneath all the flow!

Brunch and Errands Weekend Wrap-Out Outfit

Hello my lovely readers!

Today is warm but much nicer out so I tried to wear some light and airy items with some accessories that added the oomph and sassiness needed for a fine brunch with a lovely friend!

Today I chose my basic green tank-top tucked into a striped Express skirt that I belted a little higher up my waist. In addition I chose some funky accessories - the tinier one is in the shape of a pink owl and my favorite the rocking plastic glasses that my dad got me last year.

As always the Sprout watch is in attendance and I wore my yellow peep-toe small wedges to complete the outfit!

Tip of the Day: Funky necklaces make any outfit interesting and you do not need to leave comfort at the door. Wear flowy fabrics and bring in the funky with your jewelry or shoes (or perhaps a belt too!)

Playing with Polka Dots

Today was supposed to be another cold and stormy day in SF, so I broke back out the tights and my long sleeved polka dot dress.











Although I really think this is a dress that speaks for itself with its pattern, neckline and general shape, today I decided to try to accessorize it while still keeping it work appropriate.



Because of the shape of the dress, I didn't want to put a sweater on over it. I also didn't want a necklace that would obscure the neckline. I went for my marm's long charm necklace as a good accent to this already complicated dress. I really liked the length and complexity of the necklace over the patterned dress.

Saturday sun and fun wear

Today is my given day of rest, meaning all life things happen today. So farmers market shopping, trader joes, and sitting outside will be the order of the day. Tomorrow is a long library night...


Today I am wearing a long t-shirt with a cute imprint of a tuxedo print, matched with my find from Urban. The green army vest toughens the lady-likeness of the rest of the outfit and I tied it all together with a very loud and very comfortable jersey skirt. The stripes is one of my favorite patterns and adds a funkiness to the outfit. Also I am wearing a mash of different beaded necklaces to give my poor nickel allergic neck a rest.


Finally I am wearing a fairy pin I got at Bard years ago and turquoise colored shoes. I am debating utilizing the BOGO at Payless today, we will see if I can stave off my craving for more cute and afforable shoes.

I looked at the calendar and it is only a little over a month until I turn 26, I hope I dress my age!

Tip of the Day: Wear military-inspired items with funky additions like a striped skirt. Break it up with some basic colors and shapes too.

Whimsical Wednesday!

Do I sometimes feel silly posing for these pictures? You better believe it. I always try to make pictures about my clothes, but also aesthetically interesting as well. I also thought the combination of the multicolored t-straps with the polka dot dress was a semi-silly outfit unto itself.


My dress today proved to be harder to photograph then I expected. Getting the shape of the dress and the pattern to show up was no easy feat.









I got this dress really cheaply at Express a few years ago. Its actually made out of Jersey. At the time I bought it I wasn't sure if it was really work appropriate (the pattern and fabric), but I have worn it to work ever since I bought it and it never fails to get complimented.








I love polka dots, and I love the asymmetrical neckline with the long sleeves. The only thing that still makes me question this dress as work wear, is how short it is. I justify it because the rest of the dress is so covered up. I also always wear it to work with tights. Usually I try to wear it with flats, but in the midst of the move I didn't leave any at my apartment, so I had to wear heels.







I figured with the already sort of whimsical work dress, I ought to break out my Boden t-straps (which I decided not to pack for some odd reason). I honestly do think that the heels were too high and the dress too short for work, but I went with it anyways because I liked the combo of the two and I channeled my inner PEP to rock the combo that normally I would worry about being too out there!!!
