Talking

 Both today and yesterday I was talking to my cats while taking pictures of my days clothes.  Okay, I was doing the talking and they were rolling around on the ground.  All in a days work for us I suppose.

Days of This and That

 On Monday I had no inspiration for what to wear to work, so I threw on a few of my favorites and called it a day.  The funny thing is people noticed that I was a pretty toned down version of myself.  One person at work called my outfit elegant!  And I simply thought it was basic.  But I'll take elegant.

 Monday and Tuesday were pretty cold, so on Tuesday I wised up and covered up my legs.  I threw on my mothers vintage necklace to spruce up my dark outfit.  It was another day of funny work outfit comments: one of my friends asked me why I didn't look like I had stepped out of an Anthropologie store!  I was both flattered and amused.

 Finally on Wednesday I feel like I finally had the energy to think about what I was wearing.  I haven't worn my ikat top in a while so I broke it out and paired it with two of my favorite pieces: my oatmeal cardigan and my BR pencil skirt.  I was sore from working out on Tuesday so I opted for my gold flats to complete the outfit.

Geometric

 Today I paired my geometric silk print top with my structured linen jacket.  I figured the two of them went together since both of them have strong geometric patterns.  I also really liked how the jacket contained the volume of the shirt.  Because it's still chilly willy I wore my skinny cords again and my mark's paisley scarf.  Hand me down Franco Sarto flats completed my outfit.

Black Pants Twofer

 The Gap is having an amazing 30% off your entire purchase sale and I couldn't resist these pants ( I can't find them on the website - they are the cropped legging jeans).  I really wanted them in green but the black seemed more practical.  I was actually working off site on Friday so I got more dressed up then I usually would on a Friday.  I paired my black skinny pants with a black t-shirt from the Gap and a borrowed blue Eileen Fisher jacket from my mother.  Finishing it off was my floral ballet flats from J. Crew.  I really liked how simple but fun this outfit was.  Not too funky as I needed to make a good impression, but not boring either.

 On Saturday night it was a good friends birthday drinks, so I put back on my skinny black pants, but this time paired them with a cool polka dot top from Weston wear and some Seychelles heels.  I loved this top from the moment I saw it and was super excited to get to wear it out.  because it is really voluminous, the skinny pants were a must!  The shoes even got complimented as looking like the moon.  What more could a girl ask for?

Long Pants, Long Day

 I am not sure there is a direct correlation between the length of my pants and the length of my work day, but today it sure felt like it.  Despite this potential correlation I really like these black cords.  I actually really liked this whole outfit today.  I thought the different patterns and textures complimented each other nicely - which is a bonus considering I couldn't find the sweater I wanted to wear this morning and switched up my outfit at the last minute.

Twofer

This is what I wore on Thursday.  Wednesday and Thursday were crazy busy at work this week, so although I took pictures of my outfit yesterday, I did not manage to post them.  This outfit was admired by several people at work.  I actually thought it was pretty conservative, but I really like how the pants and sweater look together overall!

 the weather this week was nuts!  The beginning of the week was crazy cold and today it was warm and a little humid (especially for CA!).  I went through several outfits this morning before I got to this one.  In the end I really like how the scarf, jacket, shirt combo looked.  Its hard to beat a good set of layers!

Indecision

This morning I could not figure out what I wanted to wear.  I tried on several different tops with these pants and nothing felt right.  Finally when I was running about 10 minutes late I went for this combo.  I really liked it in the end.

Friendship

One of the best parts of my trip to the East Coast was getting to see friends.  And one of my college besties and partner in fashion Miss P and I even got to go shopping!!!  These pictures were taken at the Gap near NYU.  Miss P was looking for a dress to wear at a meeting she was attending at our alma mater, Bard and I was simply playing dress up!  Credit for this dress must go to Miss P!  She found it, and then since they had it in my size as well, I had to try it on!  Again, credit to Miss P, she figured out how to wear it and I just copied her  (there are funny ruffle fins down the front that have to be arranged just right so as not to look ridiculous).   I was particularly impressed that this dress looked good on both of us, since Miss P and I have completely different body types and styles, but it did!  Go Gap!

 This is how I wore the dress to work today!  I was really excited to break it out and start playing with it.  I love the shape and color of this dress.  Not to mention the pattern.  I paired it basic brown heels because between the pattern and the detailing on the dress I wanted to stay within my office appropriate boundaries!  Even though it is still pretty warm, I threw on a cardigan for my trips to and from work.  At first I thought I needed a darker cardigan to go with this dress, but I really like the color and the shape of my Eileen Fisher cardigan with this dress.  AND, I got tons of compliments on it today at work!  Thanks for the awesome find Miss P!  Me and my wardrobe are lucky to have you!

Its hard to see, but this dress has large pieces of fabric on the front that make up the sleeves and a ruffle detail.  I tuck mine towards the middle and let them overlap - an idea which Miss P came up with first!

Tom Ford was right Friday!

In the commentary for his movie "A Single Man," Tom Ford talks about how on his worst days he puts on his best clothes. Today was one of those crazy days where work was awful yesterday and I had a crazy amount of things to do today. And of course I did not even want to get out of bed today. So when I did get out of bed I broke out a jacket that I had recently bought, but not yet worn. I splurged on this jacket at the Eileen Fisher outlet because her materials and construction are so great, and this one fit perfectly. I really loved the shape and the color of this jacket and I felt great in it all day today. To show it off I paired it with my go to Gap jeans, and a basic gray gap t-shirt. I also rocked a scarf that was a gift from friends who were visiting Vietnam. I finished off my outfit with my floral flats. All of these things are some of my favorites and they did make me feel like I looked good throughout my crazy day.

For the Win Friday

Tonight was the opening game of the Giants vs. Diamondbacks series in SF. In July I had bought tickets to the game for my brother's birthday. It was a great game and tons of fun, but it came with the sartorial challenge of going to work followed by a Giant's game in SF. What this ended up meaning was I was more casual then I usually am on my casual Fridays at work. I wore my orange cardigan because it is the right color for the Giants and as an added bonus its wool and so actually nice and warm! My other must have was my black Jack Purcell's. As soon as your feet are cold, you are cold, and I didn't want that to happen. To fill in the rest of the outfit I wore a black tank top, belted from the Gap and my skinny Jeans. Of Course I had to wear my Giants hat and show my pride. The bottom pictures shows what I looked like at the end of the night (although sadly minus the gloves I borrowed from my brother's fiance during the game). Nights in SF are cold, and at one point I could see my own breath, but I was pleasantly bundled in an undershirt, my black tank, my orange cardigan, and my black velvet blazer with a scarf and my Giants hat. It may be the beginning of September, but here that means hopefully Indian summer is headed our way!

Housesitting: Recap!

Since my internet was down last week, prepare for a crazy amount of photos!

WEDNESDAY!

I based this outfit around wearing flat shoes! I was picking up a friend from the airport in the afternoon and then spending the evening catching up so I needed clothing that would be work to play appropriate. At the end of the night when I was taking these pictures I realized two things: (1) My friend and I had been friends since our first week of high school (we were in the same orientation class based on the fact that our last names both begin with a B), and (2) I had also had this skirt since my Freshman year of high school, which I remember because I wore it on my fifteenth birthday! I am glad to still have both of these things in my life. Proof that somethings really do last.

THURSDAY!

On Thursday, I knew that I was meeting up with friends for happy hour after work, so I knew that I wanted to wear flats again. This was a perfect excuse to break out my brown J. Crew dress again. This time I paired it with my favorite blue wool cardigan from The Gap and my gold BR flats that I traded with Miss CT for a pair of shoes that did not fit me. These gold flats were the only flats I brought with me to the Casa de Claw, and I chose them because even though they are gold, they are still kind of neutral (yes, it seems like an oxymoron, but theses shoes can be worn to give an outfit a kick or to dress it down depending on what they are paired with). The little Gordini even approved of my outfit!

FRIDAY!

On Friday, I went color crazy! I wore my yellow silk shirt from BR, with my teal shoes and skinny cropped cords. These two together are not that outrageous, but then I convinced myself that morning that I hadn't brought the purple cardigan I wanted to wear with this outfit, so I grabbed my orange one and headed for the train. I think I had also initially planned on wearing my flats with this outfit before happy hour got moved from Friday to Thursday. I really liked the combo of these pieces, but I felt like it might have been a little over the top for the work place. Luckily when I warmed up and took off the orange cardigan, my outfit was far more toned down and office appropriate. The best part was that when I got home that night, I realized I had brought 4 other cardigans with me that I could have worn. I DO love my cardigans. SATURDAY!




Saturday I had a bevy of things to do. I went to work for a few hours to ensure my coming week was not as crazy as my past week. I saw "The Help" with my parents, and I met up with friends for drinks. This outfit transferred nicely for all of those purposes. It was low key, but it wasn't sloppy. I really like the detailing on the outer purple tank. It makes the shirt interesting but not too flashy. I found this top on super sale at the J. Crew outlet in Tilton, NH. Unfortunately, its a really low cut so most days I wear a tank under it. Because the shirt is pretty voluminous, I paired it with my skinny cropped cords. During the day I wore my reefs, and at night I threw on some heels to make the outfit more bar appropriate. I also threw on a cardigan over it to keep warm at my desk during the day.

SUNDAY!

Today was my last day at the Casa de Claw and I lay out by their pool while my sheets were in the laundry and the dishwasher ran.

As a swimmer I own about a million swimsuits. My favorite by far come from J. Crew. I recently bought this red one to swim laps in, but it was such a nice day today that I broke it out to sunbathe in. To cover it up, I threw on my boyfriend shorts from The Gap and a basic tank, also from the gap. No shoes needed.
