Today my outfit was total fluke. The lovely Miss Fiona woke me up early this morning so by the time it was time to get dressed I was already out of it. I threw on this sweater skirt combo after I had already cast about 50% of my work clothes onto the floor.

Despite its dubious beginnings, I really liked this outfit and got many compliments on it. This was the first time I felt like I found a top that fit with the skirt. Because this skirt sits right at my waist (not my hips or high waisted) its hard to find a shirt that fits with it. This sweater hit the skirt at just the right place.

To spice up my outfit I borrowed a long necklace from my marm and wore my metallic Jeffrey Campbell flats.

Skirt: The Gap, $11
Sweater: The Gap, borrowed from my marm (approx. 10 years old)

Sneaky Hate Spiral Wednesday!

I had one of those days when nothing went right. Granted, nothing went spectacularly wrong, but it just wasn't a great day. And to top it all of when I went to put together this post I would get to the end of the post and blogger would fail. As I said, one of those days.

But I did like my outfit. I liked the combo of accessories and basics. I really liked how the shoes and necklace tied together. The shoes are actually hand me downs from my mother, and the necklace is one of the ones that my dad made in the 70s. Overall I was comfortable in my day where nothing went right.

Dress: Anne Taylor, $32
Belt: Jeremy's, $20
Cardigan: Talbots, gift from my parents
Shoes: DKNY, hand me down from my marm
Necklace: Vintage, made by my daddio, borrowed from my marm

Hope your Wednesday was better then mine!

Mid-week outfit!

Hello,

At the mid-week everyone tends to feel a little of a slump but, luckily, clothes and put you back on track if they are interesting, comfortable, and make you feel good.

Today my outfit speaks to that and my love for patter and color. Today I am wearing a thrift store skirt in bright red pushed higher to be a high-waisted skirt and belted in the paper-bag skirt style. This helps me feel a bit taller and not swallowed in my clothes. Alongside that I wanted to add some print, so I took out an old favorite striped tank and button down.

For accessories, I kept it basic with a chain necklace, a bright ring, sash belt, and peep-toe wedges.

Tip of the Day: Remember the proportions of your body and highlight them!

Outfit:
Skirt: Boomerangs ($5)
Tank: WetSeal ($5)
Button Down, Short-Sleeved: H&M ($14)
Belt: Gift
Necklace: Flea Market ($10)

The Weather Wrecked Havoc on my Tuesday!

Today was a cold and rainy day in the Bay Area, which meant it felt more like January then almost July. Although the weather reports said that it was going to rain, I didn't realize that they actually meant torrential downpours. Luckily I wore pants and my warm jacket, but my choice of footwear was truly dumb in weather like this.

Today I based my outfit around my skinny black cords. I knew that it was going to be cold and wet, but I didn't want to bother with tights, so it had to be pants. I paired my skinny pants with my printed silk tank from BR and my marm's cropped cardigan. I really liked how the fitted-ness of the cardigan and pants played off of the volume of the shirt.

I usually don't post pictures of me in my outerwear because its not usually central to my outfit. But the ridiculousness of wearing one of my real jackets and a scarf to work in June struck me as something that had to be shown! Yes it really was that cold today!

I chose my purple flats to add more color to my outfit. During the middle of the day when I actually had to gout out I ended up putting on some super cheap flats that I leave at the office because it was raining so hard and I didn't want to ruin these. I also ended up rolling these pants over once I got back from lunch because they were soaked after my foray out of the office at lunch!

It was actually so dry and cold today that my contacts were literally falling out of my eyes, so mid-morning I switched to my glasses. I know! I couldn't believe it either.

Jacket: Gift from my parents
Scarf: gift from my future sister in law
Top: Banana Republic, $13
Cardigan: The Gap, borrowed from my marm
Pants: J. Crew, $40
Shoes: Nine West, $40
Glasses: LaFont Allures

Happy Tuesday all! Hope you are warm and dry wherever you are!

Things go downhill ... but not the clothing!

So what do you do when things are not going well, when lemons are simply lemons. Made good clothes (and then some lemonade!)

So my goal for this week is to get by and do it looking good. It is very warm and humid out but cold in the office so I layered some dresses together (a shirt dress and summer dress) and added some bright and colorful accessories to it.

Today I am wearing my hot pink, star-print shirt dress cinched with a sash belt. Underneath I have a bright green beach dress that peaks out of the bottom. For accessories I have plastic and beaded necklaces, bracelets, and rings. As for shoes I wanted to go pretty basic and wear my jean peep-toe wedges.

Tip of the Day: never let a bad week tarnish good outfits, bring out the color even when you are not so colorful!

Outfit:
Shirt-Dress: H&M ($20)
Beach Dress: H&M ($7)
Belt: From another H&M skirt ($0)
Bracelet and ring: H&M ($7)
Necklace: Gift ($0)
Shoes: Payless ($20)

My Sunshine Attempt!

Although its hard to believe from looking at these pictures, today was actually overcast and cold for most of the day. So with that in mind I took Miss P's advice and wore a yellow top so at least there would be some sort of sunshine in my life. I don't own a lot of yellow, so when I tried on this top at BR recently I thought, "why not?" Its actually a long tunic top that has embroidery detailing around the neck and sleeves. I also really like the fluttery sleeves!

I paired the top with my purple cardigan because the two colors remind me a summer flowers. I paired my flower inspired tops with a new basic pencil skirt and my leopard pumps to give my outfit some pattern. Even though my bare legs got a little cold when I was outside, otherwise I loved this outfit today.

Shirt: Banana Republic, $18
Skirt: Banana Republic, $35
Cardigan: Halogen via Nordstrom, gift from my bro
Pumps: Deena and Ozzy via Jeremy's, $30
Sunnies: Mosely Tribes, gift from my bro

Happy beginning of the week all!

Back in the Grind

After a really relaxing and fun weekend it is time to attack yet another work week. Today I have my job at NYU so I wanted to be warm but also look professional and fun for the students who asked me questions.

Today I chose to wear a very old but great skirt from Urban. I purchased this skirt while still in high school so I am proud that I can still wear it and that it fits! The pattern of the skirt needs some basics around it (and a bit of pattern ;)) so I choose my basic green tank-top and a striped cover-up to keep me warm in office air conditioning. Due to the amount of pattern and color I toned down the accessories and just wore a beautiful pendant necklace and strappy purple sandals with my pink satin belt.

Tip of the Day: Try to wear old clothing in new ways, through shoes and accessories!

Outfit:
Tank-Top: Wet Seal ($4)
Skirt: Urban O ($10)
Shoes: H&M ($20)
Necklace: Gift
Belt: Urban O: ($10)

Housewarming Sunday!

Today was a nice low key Sunday punctuated with a housewarming party in the afternoon. I spent the morning baking cookies for the party and the afternoon giggling with friends. For these awesome leisure activities, I wore a comfortable and low key outfit.

I recently bought this shirt at Anthropologie. I really like the use of color and pattern. It also has really nice beading details on the shoulders but I didn't get a good picture of it. I paired this fun and funky top with my skinny jeans, borrowed navy flats and a cardigan for when it got cold. It was a great outfit for lounging around at the house warming with friends.

Shirt: Anthropologie, $20
Jeans: The Gap, bought for me by my Marm
Cardigan: J. Crew via Maribel, $40
Shoes: Preview via Nordstrom's Rack, borrowed from my Marm

Happy Sunday All! Hope it was lovely!

Sunny Sunday-wear

Today I battled the skirt vs. short argument in my head only to decide that due to comfort and the need to move around, shorts would be best.

It is a beautiful day for a brunch and some apartment showings (outside of grad school and blogging, I also help my landlord rent her apartments!). So I needed to be cool, comfortable, also nice for a fun brunch with friends.

Today I am wearing my striped, sear-sucker shorts with a basic blue v-neck t-shirt. For accessories I wanted to add some fun so I choose a necklace I made with a left-over earring, my fedora straw hat, a brown belt, and neutral suede platforms.

I love the outfit and I hope I can keep my hat!

Tip of the Day: Put a hat on it! Your head I mean ... a straw fedora or fanciful hat can add a lot to your outfit.

Outfit:
Shirt: Urban Outfitters ($4)
Shorts: H&M ($15)
Shoes: Urban O ($10)
Hat: H&M ($7.99)
Necklace: Made by Me ($0)

Sharkfest Saturday!

This is the outfit that I threw together last night to wear after the Sharkfest swim I did this morning. The Sharkfest swim is from Alcatraz to San Francisco that some friends and I did this morning. It was an amazing experience. I knew after the swim though that I was going to be totally out of it so I wanted a simple and comfortable outfit to wear to hang out after the swim.

Although this outfit is made up of basics, its a lot of my favorite basics. I love v neck t-shirts, cardigan, and flip flops. When I just want to be comfortable and not look like a total bum I think a well fitting shirt and a cardigan can spruce up any outfit. Even though I would never dream of wearing flip flops to work, there's no beating them for general running around on the weekend.

Hope your Saturday was lovely!

Shirt: The Gap, $6
Cardigan: The Gap, gift from my marm
Jeans: The Gap, $22
Flip Flops: Reefs, $20

Strange Saturday

I am feeling a bit odd today, for reasons I will not care to explain. To make up for it, I decided on a comfortable but fun outfit to wear while doing errands in Manhattan and taking some time to think.

Today I am wearing my American Apparel Dress with a sash belt . For accessories I kept it simple with one ring from H&M and my purple H&M sandals. I even changed my nails to a bright green to spice it up.

I love the dress because of its simplicity and its gorgeous red color.

Tip of the Day: Mix the colorful with the simplest of silhouettes.

Outfit:
Dress: American Apparel (Gift, $0)
Belt: H&M (with another skirt. $0)
Ring: Set of 3 H&M ($5.95)
Shoes: H&M ($20)

My Embellished Friday!

Happy Friday all! It was a nice low key Friday for me and I dressed accordingly. As much as I enjoy my skirts and heels during the week, I also enjoy my jeans on Fridays.

Today I wore my mother's embellished jacket over my tuxedo tank top. I really liked how the two embellished pieces fit together.

To give my neutral, albeit embellished, outfit I decided to wear my red shoes to give my outfit a pop of color.

Jacket: Anthropologie, $30
Tuxedo Tank: Banana Republic, $16
Jeans: The Gap $22
Shoes: Marc Jacobs via Maribel, $100
Sunnies: Mosely Tribes, gift from my brother!

Happy Friday Fun Time All!

Hello everyone!

Today I am off to work and perhaps something after work so I wanted to look nice as well as comfortable. I also know that the office is FREEZING, so I needed something to cover-up at least half of my body. I choose a sweet dress and a long jacket to accomplish that.

Today I chose my beautiful beach print dress that was a gift from a friend several years ago. As the cover-up I choose my velvet long jacket with mother of pearl buttons and pockets. For accessories I choose a pendant, locket necklace from a Vermont Flea Market, given to me by my roomie and turquoise strappy sandals.

Tip of the Day: be fun! Wear prints, color, and velvet in whole pieces or accessories!

Look at the Wilbur in all these photos, he is the real accessory!
