Wet, Warm Wednesday

I love alliterations but I do not love humid, wet weather, which is all we have gotten this summer! Despite the weather, it is another day of clothes!

Today I wanted something light and easy so I can complete all my errands comfortably. I found this top as my friend Emma was clearing out items as we moved. This is the first time I am wearing it to we will see how it survives the day.

The rest of my items are Ann Taylor Loft shorts, TJ Maxx sweater, and H&M shoes.

My Best Friend's Wedding - Beach House Bridal Shower

 This weekend I helped to host a bridal shower for my brothers fiancé with her sister, the other bridesmaid.  It was a total blast, and as you can see, even the weather cooperated!  We had it at a beach house on the cliffs above the beach and I got to break out a dress that I bought because it was on sale and loved but hadn't yet had a chance to wear.  I ordered this dress from Boden when it went on sale for $44 and lucky for me, I had a gift card from Miss P, so it was a steal! I paired it with some hand me down sandals from my mother and my gifted Mosely tribes sunglasses from my brother.  It was such and easy look that was perfect for a beach shower!

Warm Friday

 Friday was a really warm day by San Francisco standards and although I wore my cardigan to stay all covered up at work, when I was outside  I let my arms be free.  I found this shell in a dry cleaners bay from ages ago and knew it would be perfect for spring.  I love its color shape and neckline.  I also love how it can be worn with either skirts or, in this case jeans.

Opaque

 Another day, and some more thoughts about tights.  I think I say this every time I post about this dress, but I love this dress.  It's simple, it's easy, it has polka dots!  But it is also incredibly short.  To be anywhere near office appropriate, it has to be worn with opaque tights.  If I did not wear dark colored or opaque tights with this dress it would be way to much thigh for the office.  Yes, even paired with flats. This is one of the things I begrudgingly like about tights - they can make skirts and dresses that would otherwise be too short to wear to the office suddenly office appropriate. So today I went for my wine colored tights.  I also added one of my mother's vintage necklaces (that my father made way back in the 70s) to have fun with the neckline and play around with my different accessory options with this dress.

Camera Issues

 Apologies for the absence.  I took pictures of my outfits on Friday and Tuesday but then my camera decided to act up and not let me upload them!  Very annoying.  Luckily it decided to play nice today.  Its been raining on and off here so I went for my black skinny jeans.  To dress them up I borrowed this awesome vintage jacket that my mark snagged at Maribel.  I also paired it with a vintage necklace that my father made in the 70s.  I really love how the jacket looks with the dark teal sweater underneath.    Because I had a lot going on up top, I went for my nude flats!  Sometimes you have to say enough is enough.

Retail

I have a confession to make: I paid full price at the Gap for these pants.  I almost NEVER do this.  Usually I am patient and wait for things to go on sale, but with these pants I was totally sucked in.  I walk past a Gap every day on my way to work.  Literally every day.  And these pants have been front and center in the pictures and on the models for over a week.  One of the ways that I justified this purchase was by buying them in the navy color.  I really wanted them in the coral color and they looked super cute.  Even the light pink ones looked good, but I decided I could wear them to work if I bought them in the navy, so I did!

This outfit like so many this week was not planned.  I knew I wanted to wear these pants, but I didn't know what I was going to pair them with for work.  I was actually planning on a different top, but then I saw this one and knew it would look great with these pants and a cardigan.  Like yesterday's outfit I just threw it together, but I ended up really liking it!

Improv

I usually have some thought of what I want to wear when I start getting dressed in the morning.  This morning I was more or less all over the place.  So I quickly put together this outfit.  But I actually really liked this outfit and felt good in it throughout the day.  I really like the shape of the pants and the shirt and the colors of the shirt and necklace.  I must admit though, I was freezing this morning in my office because I didn't bring a scarf or cardigan . . . Ooops!

The Stages of My Outfit

 Another subtle HB outfit no?  So many things to say: (1) I got more dressed up then I usually would have this dead week because we were celebrating my Daddio's Birthday with fancy pants dinner! (2) A good portion of this outfit is borrowed and/or from Anthropologie.  (3) I posted tons of pictures because this outfit went through many variations throughout my day (flats and the cardigan at the office, just the dress and my wedges at dinner, the wedges and the red coat to keep warm).

This is what I looked like at the end of the night.  I really like how the brown legs and shoes go with the dress/jacket/necklace combo!

The dress is actually my mothers.  She bought it for my brother's engagement party from Anthro.  Actually, the dress, shoes and sweater jacket are all Anthro!

The dress, necklace, and flats (in the picture below) were all borrowed from my mother.  She is very generous with her wardrobe!

I toned down this loud dress at the office with brown flats (borrowed from my mother) and the brown cardigan I knit in college.  It was still a pretty bright and bold outfit, but my office is used to it!

Catching Up

 Friday was a low key day for me.  I tried to spice up my tried and true green sweater and skinny cords with my teal flats and a vintage necklace borrowed from my marm.  I really like this outfit for its simplicity but still fun vibe.  It was casual without being boring or inappropriate for work.

 On Saturday I was a bum (therefore no pictures) but on Sunday I had to go to work.  I actually broke out a pair of Doc Martins that I have had since 1999 on Sunday.  My genius cousin and I were talking about how Docs are back in style and I pointed out that I had two pairs, bought in London in 1999 that I could never get rid of.  Once I broke out these bad boys, I knew I had to start wearing them again.  Plus they went well with my 70esque flairs.

 Today was a cra-zay day at work, but luckily my clothes were comfy.  Today I paired my Target dress with my marm's ombre gap cardigan a skinny belt for an office appropriate look.  As it is getting colder I also broke out my black BR tights (love them) and my Stuart Weitzman slingbacks.  I got complimented up and down on this outfit today.  Everybody loved the sweater and the shoes.  Not bad for a crazy day outfit where I got home at 9:45pm!

Looong Monday

After the shining break of last week and the fabulously relaxing weekend I had there is a slight dread for this week to begin, but with lots to look forward too, including a trip up to Bard College for Alumni Day, I decided to pick up my heels (tehe) abd look good for these looong days.

It is pretty gloomy out so I choose to wear comfy and warm clothing that had some color to them. I started with a hot pink top I got at The Gap and paired it with my striped long sweater and long back vast for a nice layering effect. For bottoms I chose my green slacks and my red Urban Outfitters red wedges. Overall the outfit is clean and pretty simple, but I added some accessory styles and colors to give it a little more kick.

For accessories I chose a beaded necklace given to me years ago with a made necklace from a lovely friend. To add some sparkle I chose another gifted item, a Peacock pin and, of course, my Sprout watch.

Tip of the Day: Simple can be surprising, add some nice details (whether it is pattern, colors, or a funky accessory) and you have people checking you out in the sweater and slacks!

 Funny Faces Monday

This is my contemplative face.

Headless and therefore faceless.

 On Monday I went for what is right now a very trendy look: a cardigan with a skinny belt over it.  I have seen this look pop up at the Gap and J. Crew, and the instant I tried it myself I knew why it is so popular.  I really like the shape it gave me.  In order to stay away from the boring I went for colorful with my purple cardigan and my teal shoes.  I borrowed my mother's double wrap around belt to achieve my look.  So as not to be naked at the office, I put my cardigan over my basic black dress.  I really liked the simple silhouette of this outfit, but also that it was not too muted.

Fall Tuesday

Its been cold and raining on and off for the last few days, so today I planned my outfit around one of my warmer sweaters.  I bought this sweater years ago off the sale rack at Maribel.  I really like the different patterns and colors of this sweater.  Because this sweater has so much going on, I paired it with all black underneath.  I wore my black J. Crew cords and my gifted Gap shirt from Stormy Normy.  Because this shirt is pretty flowy, I belted it with my marm's orange J. Crew belt.  To give myself some height I wore gray BR heels.  I always convince myself these heels are not as uncomfortable as I remember, but they are!!!  Still I loved the way they looked with this outfit! To combat the rain, I broke out a hat that my friend Nutter Butter made me for my birthday in college.  I love the red color and the floral detailing of this hat.  It even got complimented by a rando on the bus!!!
